1. The Stone Holds the Condensation
A stone coaster is a slab of natural stone that sits under a glass or mug. Tufa coasters are honed travertine with the pores left open, so the water that runs off a cold glass is drawn into the stone instead of pooling on the table.

Travertine is a natural limestone. The grain, the pitting and the small flecks differ on every piece, so the four coasters in a set match in shape and size but not in pattern. It is quarried stone, not a print.
The top is honed smooth, with the natural pores still visible. Expect a cream tone that varies a little from coaster to coaster.
4. Cork Feet Keep Stone Off the Table

5. Care: A Damp Cloth, No Acids
Wipe with a damp cloth and let the coaster air dry. Do not soak it. Keep harsh cleaners and acids such as citrus and vinegar away, because they mark limestone. If wine spills, blot it promptly and rinse with plain water.
A little stone sealer once a year helps the pores resist stains. That is the whole routine: no special cleaner, and nothing to replace.
